Capital Closes Up Shop on Indoor Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital Women's Track and Field finished in ninth place following the conclusion of the 2015 Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, held inside the Capital Center.


Ashley Freshkorn (Columbus, Ohio/Hamilton Township) put forth the Crusaders' best overall performance with a fifth-place finish in the shot put. The sophomore had a best toss of 11.98 meters to pull in four points toward the team's total score. Friday, she placed eighth in the weight throw (14.03m).

Samantha Wentz (Haddon Heights, N.J.) placed in two different events on Saturday, one individually and one as part of a relay. In the 500-meter dash, the senior placed eighth with a finish time of 1:25.90, a new personal record.

Wentz also ran the first leg of Capital's 4x400-meter relay. The team which also consisted of Sarah Rini, Abbey Bodeker and Shalynn Dornbush placed sixth and earned three points after crossing the line in 4:23.68.

Also placing twice over the course of the day was Dornbrush, who added a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter dash (1:03.31) and Kasey Parkhurst with an eighth-place finish in the triple jump (10.21m). Both results marked new personal records.

Bodeker and Dornbrush added a second placement to their resumes as part of another relay team, the 4x200 relay. The duo combined with Parkhurst and Rachel Rus to time out in 1:52.61 for sixth place.

Capital finished ninth in the team standings with 19.50 points.

The University of Mount Union earned the 2015 OAC Indoor Championship with 191 total points, followed by Otterbein University (116) and Ohio Northern University (94).
