WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Capital University Women's Tennis took a 9-0 defeat at the hands of rival Otterbein University on Saturday morning.
The Cardinals jumped out to a fast start with wide-margin wins at two and three doubles. Madison Watt and Maria Sadek made it close at one doubles, but ultimately lost to Sydney Bergman and Makayla Sutter, 8-4.
Cap's fortunes did not improve as they moved into singles play. Bergman and Watt met again in the top flight bout, and again Bergman took the win (6-1, 6-1). Maria Sadek again made for a close match in the second singles flight against Sutter, but dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision.
Otterbein went on the run the table in singles play to complete the shutout, 9-0.
Capital now is 7-8 overall and 3-3 in OAC play with two regular season matches remaining. Cap's next match will be its final in Columbus when they host Ohio Northern University on Wednesday, April 17. If weather permits, they will play outdoors at Whetstone Park of Roses at 3:30 p.m. If the weather does not cooperate, they will move the match to Scarborough East Tennis Club for a 1 p.m. start time.
