COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's tennis team opened the Ohio Athletic Conference portion of the schedule with a 9-0 loss to Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday afternoon.
Though the Crusaders (4-6, 0-1 OAC) were unable to claim a set win, the bout up and down the lineup displayed grit and resilience. Cap challenged the Yellow Jackets it each of its three doubles bouts with the top team of Madison Watt and Maria Sadek giving BW its best in an 8-5 loss to the pairing of Jayde Robinson and Ashtyn Morris.
Capital had to bounce around its schedule while playing at the Scarborough East Tennis Club which caused some start-stop between matches. First-year Karen Kanke gave BW's Emma Hubbard a good run at the six spot in the singles lineup, forcing a tiebreaker in the first set, 7-6 (7-4), then falling in the second, 6-4.
Elizabeth Sadek also had her match broken up into segments but lost 6-4, 6-4 to Imani Robinson at three singles.
At one singles, Madison Watt pushed Jayde Robinson in the first set despite a loss (6-4), but was unable to recover and dropped the second, 6-0.
Capital will regroup and continue on in OAC play when they head to Zanesville to play Muskingum University on Wednesday, March 27 with first service set for 3:30 p.m.
