AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners for athletic performance and Capital University's Madison Watt was named the OAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Monday afternoon, April 9, 2018.

Freshman Madison Watt (Wapakoneta, Ohio/Wapakoneta) went a perfect 4-0 between her play through singles and doubles matches. Her performances helped Capital win its first conference match since 2015 and back-to-back OAC wins since 2013.

Watt had to come from behind in her first singles bout of the week against Heidelberg's Esmerelda Rios. After dropping the first set, 6-3, Watt came back and defeated Rios 6-1 and 10-4 in a tiebreaker. Later in the evening, she paired with Ashlee Freeman and won their respective doubles match, 7-6 (10-6). The Crusaders defeated the Student Princes that evening, 6-3.

Watt and the Crusaders returned to action over the weekend and dispensed the Pioneers of Marietta College, 5-4. She did her part by winning both her matches that night, defeating Victoria Xie in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) and then paired up with Freeman for an 8-1 victory.

She is now 7-4 overall in singles play in her inaugural season and 5-6 in doubles, all out of the number one spot in the CU lineup. This marks her first OAC weekly honor in her career.
