COLUMBUS, Ohio - Capital Women's Soccer finished up its 2019 regular season on Saturday afternoon at Bernlohr Stadium. The Crusaders defeated Otterbein University, 2-0. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 14-5-0 overall, 7-2-0 in the OAC, while the Cardinals drop to 14-3-1, 7-2-0 in conference play.

  • After spending the majority of the first half battling it out with the Cardinals, the Crusaders scored their first goal of the evening. In the 35th minute of play, Freshman Avery Hart (Pickerington, Ohio) received the ball around the 20-yard line, dribbled past several defenders and took a shot towards the goal. The ball went rolling past Otterbein's goalkeeper and into the lower right corner of the net.

  • In the last ten minutes of the first half, Capital secured its second and final goal of the match. Junior Emily Mathias (Delaware, Ohio) sent a through ball to senior Maggie Peddicord (Delaware, Ohio) just inside the box. Peddicord took a right-footed shot and sent the ball into the lower right corner of the net.

  • Early in the second half, Otterbein took a free kick from the near side of the field. The ball landed in front of the net and a shot was taken. Junior goalkeeper Kelly Bachmann (Zionsville, Ind.) lunged to make an incredible save with her left leg.

  • Capital controlled the majority of play in the remainder of the second half, preventing Otterbein from scoring.

  • Avery Hart secured her tenth goal of the season.
  • Maggie Peddicord had her second goal of the season and sixth of her career.
  • Tonight's match marked Kelly Beckmann's second shutout of the season.
  • Capital had a total of 11 shots, five of which were on frame.

With the results from today's match, the Crusaders secure the second seed in the OAC Women's Soccer Tournament. Capital will receive a first-round bye and will play their next match on Thursday, November 7 at home. The time of the match and their opponent will be determined at a later date.
