Capital Ties with Wittenberg After Tigers Score Late Goal

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – After scoring an early goal but conceding a late one, Capital University Women's Soccer (2-3-1) battled Wittenberg University (1-3-3) to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night.

The Crusaders took a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute on a goal from Mary Bushee (San Marcos, Calif./San Marcos), her first of the season. Bushee was assisted by Amanda Kachaylo (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area). Capital attempted three shots in the first half and four in the second.

The teams attacked back and forth for the next 60 minutes of play before the Tigers equalized. In the 88th minute, Jordyn Wright linked up with Julia Smith for the tying goal. The Tigers took eight second-half shots, five of which were on goal.

In the first overtime period, Wittenberg got two shots on goal but both were saved by Capital keeper Kelly Bachmann (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville). Jordan Fike (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) took Capital's lone shot in the first overtime but the shot sailed high.

In the second overtime, the Tigers took two shots, one of which was saved by Bachmann. Capital was not able to record a shot before time expired.

For the game, Capital took eight shots compared to Wittenberg's 18. Bachmann got the start in goal for the Crusaders, her second start of the season, and made nine saves.

Capital will host Hanover College (Ind.) in its next game on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 2 p.m.
