AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Soccer season is on the horizon and excitement continues to build with the announcement of the women's soccer preseason coaches' poll by the Ohio Athletic Conference. Capital University Women's Soccer has been predicted to finish second overall.

Capital finished last season with a conference record of 6-2-1 to earn the second seed heading into the OAC Tournament but was bounced in the first round by eventual tournament champion, the University of Mount Union. This year, Capital garnered 37 points to claim the same spot in preseason predictions.

Despite representing the conference as the automatic qualifier at the national tournament, Mount Union slipped back to No. 4 in the preseason rankings, but did garner one first-place vote. Ohio Northern University, who was regular season champion last year, earned the remaining nine first-place votes and is the preseason favorite to repeat in 2017.

Otterbein University, who finished third in the regular season last year, moved into the third spot in this year's preseason ranking. John Carroll University (25) and Baldwin Wallace University (20) round out the top six, and are predicted to return to the conference tournament.

Capital returns 14 letterwinners, including nine starters, from a season ago. Cap will rely heavily on its senior-laden defense led by Caroline Hester, Chloe Brown, Mary Bushee, and Kaitlyn Semelsberger. Seven freshmen will join this year's team plus two sophomores joining the team for their first seasons under third-year head coach Matt Ogden.
