COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University Crusaders received a big night from freshman forward Carlee Murry, who propelled the team to a 4-1 blowout lead against Ohio Wesleyan University.
Throughout the match, it felt as though the Crusaders were in control, beginning with Capital's leading scorer, Becca Cartmill (Temecula, Calif.), scoring the match's first goal of the game in the sixth minute. Ohio Wesleyan's Lauren Kocsis got the Fighting Bishops on the board as she took advantage of a failed clear, kicking the ball into an open net. The two teams entered halftime tied at one goal.
The second half was dominated by the performance of Carlee Murry (Hilliard, Ohio). Less than two minutes into the second half, the freshman made the Bishops pay for a failed pass to the keeper, scoring the first goal of her career. Over the next 14 minutes, Murry exploded for two more goal, Caroline Hester (Milford, Ohio) and Taylor Lantz (Elkhart, Ind.) assisted her in the last two goals.
Murry was efficient, scoring on three of her four attempted shots. All four of her shots were on goal. Hester and Lantz led all players with one assist apiece.
The Purple and White held the Bishops to just five shots, while firing of 17 of its own. Capital had an accurate night with 13 shots on goal.
Hannah Klotzsche (Avon, Ind.) received the win at goalie after making a trio of saves.
Capital opens conference action on Saturday, Oct. 2 when it takes on archrival Otterbein University (5-1-1). The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
