Women’s Soccer’s Season Comes to an End Against Centre College

DANVILLE, Ky.—Capital University's women's soccer team suffered a tough defeat at the hands of the Centre College Colonels on Sunday afternoon.

Capital (15-5-1) was unable to find an answer early in the match as Centre (19-1-1) applied constant pressure to the Capital's backline.

Centre's ability to move the ball was on full display in the first half. In the match's 22nd minute, the Colonels crowded the box to set up a three on two scenario in favor of Centre. Following a blocked shot attempt, Sarah Waldo dished it to teammate Katie Downing, who chipped it in from a few feet out.

Centre's third goal of the match was a much longer shot as midfielder Alex Combs struck the ball from 25 yards, curving the ball into the top-right corner of the goal, just getting by the outstretched arems of the Capital goalkeeper. The Colonel's style of play resulted in a 12-2 shot advantage heading into the intermission.

The second half was less eventful as Centre's defense continued to clamp down to keep Capital's attack at bay. Centre finished the match with 20 shots compared to Capital's seven.

The Crusaders enjoyed plenty of success in Matt Ogden's first season at the helm, winning the Ohio Athletic Conference for the third straight season at on their way to going undefeated in conference play for the first time in school history.
