AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Capital University Women's Lacrosse was victorious in its opening game of the season against Transylvania University (Ky.) on Saturday and Makenna Ozenghar was a big reason why. For her efforts, Ozenghar was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, Feb. 18.
The senior midfielder led Capital with three points, two goals and an assist, against the Pioneers including the game-winning score. With Transylvania ahead 2-0, Ozenghar scored Capital's first goal of the season midway through the first half on Saturday to bring the Crusaders to within one score. Capital eventually took a 4-3 lead just before halftime and then Ozengar assisted a goal by Kathryn Walton to increase Capital's lead. The Pioneers cut the lead to one again before Ozenghar netter her second of the day. Transylvania scored the final goal of the game but Ozenghar's score preserved the win.
The Youngstown, Ohio native led Capital with five draw controls and she picked up two ground balls in the win.
Ozenghar and the rest of the Crusaders will have the chance to continue their successful start to the season on Saturday, Feb. 23 when they host the College of Wooster at Purmort Field at Bernlohr Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
