ADA, Ohio – Capital University Women's Lacrosse flexed both its offensive and defensive muscles on Saturday in its 23-2 win over Ohio northern University to secure the No. 3 seed in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament this upcoming week.
This was the third game in a row that the Crusaders scored more than 20 goals and the third-straight game that they allowed only two or fewer goals against. Capital scored the first seven goals of the game and the first six goals were all scored by different players. Makenna Ozenghar scored the seventh goal and was the first Crusader to score twice.
Ohio Northern found the back of the net for the first time at the 21:19 mark of the first half but the Crusaders increased the lead to 11-1 after Kara Hines scored her second of the game off of a free position shot with 13:03 to play in the half. Capital went into halftime leading 16-2.
Seven unanswered goals in the second half gave Capital its third game this season with a 20-goal margin of victory. Hines and Ozenghar led the Crusaders with five goals each, Kathryn Walton finished with four goals and two assists and Regan Hanood led all scorers with seven points on two goals and five assists. Walton scored the 100th goal of her career in the contest and Hanood eclipsed the 200-point mark for her career.
Capital outshot ONU 37-10 and had a 23-3 advantage in draw controls.
The Crusaders finish the regular season with a 13-2 overall record and 6-2 conference mark. Capital will now travel to John Carroll University on Tuesday, May 1 to play the Blue Streaks in the semifinals of the OAC Tournament. The time for that contest has not been announced. When Capital and John Carroll met on March 24, the Crusaders lost a heartbreaking 12-11 game in overtime.
