The Crusaders garnered 42 points, 22 behind the University of Mount Union's conference-leading 64 points. The Purple Raiders received eight first-place votes. Baldwin Wallace University placed second with 52 points and John Carroll University slotted in at third and netted the ninth first-place vote.

Otterbein University was picked fifth in the league with 38 points, Muskingum University earned 28 and Ohio Northern received 23. Wilmington College and Heidelberg University round out the poll with 16 and 11 points, respectively.

Fifth-year head coach Stacey Wood's roster boasts four seniors, five juniors, five sophomores and four freshman. Despite the young roster, the team returns two players who made the All-OAC First Team and one member of the second team. Kara Hines and Regan Hanood will lead the Capital attack after combining to record 106 points last season. Makenna Ozenghar scored 24 goals and added 11 assists and will return for her junior year.

The Crusaders finished with an 11-4 overall record in 2017 and went 6-2 in conference play. All four of Capital's losses were by one goal, including the season-ending loss to Baldwin Wallace in the OAC Tournament semifinals.

Capital will begin its season on Wednesday, Feb. 21 when it hosts Centre College at 5 p.m. on Purmort Field at Bernlohr Stadium.
