BEREA, Ohio – Kara Hines posted a team-high four goals in a loss to Baldwin Wallace University, in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals. Cap conceded the golden goal, in the 9-8 overtime thriller.
Hannah Albrechta took the only shot of overtime, and it was all that was needed as she scored the sudden-death goal to give BW the 9-8 victory.
The Yellow Jackets started the game with two goals in the first four minutes of play. Brie Martineau scored the first goal. Jenna Turner had the second goal.
Junior Taylor Thomas (Massillon, Ohio / Jackson) put the Crusaders on the board and cut the BW lead to 2-1. Junior Victoria Husain (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville South) picked up the assist. Junior Kara Hines (Columbus, Ohio / Worthington Kilbourne) was fouled inside the shooting area and she was awarded a free position attempt. Hines was able to bury a shot into the back of the net, which tied the game at 2-2.
Baldwin Wallace's Maddie Russell put the Yellow Jackets up by one with just under 11 minutes left in the first stanza.
After being fouled in the shooting area, Husain was successful as she beat the BW net minder to tie the game, 3-3.
Hines and the Crusaders started the second half with three unanswered goals. The first goal from Hines was assisted by junior Regan Hanood (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington North). Senior Korri Titus (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington North) assisted on the second goal scored by Hines. Hines then found glory for the third consecutive time on an unassisted goal.
The Yellow Jackets did not give up and responded with a 4-0 run of their own and regained the lead with 10:27 left in regulation. Martineau and Russell each tabbed two goals on the run.
Junior Mary Manos (Canton, Ohio / Jackson) scored the equalizer to tie the game off of a free position shot.
With just over five minutes left on the clock, Titus was fouled and awarder a free position attempt. Titus was able to put a shot past the BW goaltender to put Cap up 8-7.
Martineau tied the game up with just over a minute and a half left in regulation.
Senior Maddie Wilson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Chagrin Falls) forced a Baldwin Wallace turnover as it tried to set up a last second shot. The caused turnover sent the game to overtime.
The game was evenly matched. BW held a slim edge in shots, 20-19, and in draw controls, 12-7. Both teams scooped up 16 ground balls. The Yellow Jackets were successful on 13-of-14 clear attempts and 3-of-5 free position shots.
Capital made fewer turnovers, 12, compared to BW's 14. Cap was successful on four of the 11 free position chances and made 13 successful clears on 14 attempts.
Hines paced Cap with four goals and three draw controls. Hines picked up three ground balls and forced two turnovers. Manos, Husain, Thomas and Titus finished the game with one goal each. Manos finished with a team-high four ground balls. Titus, Husain and Hanood each posted an assist.
Capital finished its season with an 11-4 record. We want to thank these young women that have been there since the beginning of Cap women's lacrosse for their hard work and dedication to the program.
