NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Capital University women's lacrosse team took to the field as it traveled to Muskingum University for a matchup with the Fighting Muskies. Mary Manos had a career-high three goals, in the 13-2 victory.
After being fouled in the shooting area, junior Regan Hanood (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington North) scored on a free position shot. Freshman Brianna Rampi (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Darby) added an unassisted goal to put Cap up 2-0 with 7:05 remaining in the first half.
Muskingum picked up its first goal off of the stick of Ashley Adams, to cut the Cap lead in half.
Sophomore Makenna Ozenghar (Youngstown, Ohio / Cardinal Mooney) scored two consecutive goals for the Crusaders. The first goal was assisted by senior Korri Titus (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington North). Junior Victoria Husain (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville South) achieved her 100th career point, just the third in Cap history, when she assisted on Ozenghar's second goal.
Titus notched her second assist of the game when she found sophomore Taylor Barclay (Granville, Ohio / Granville) for a goal with just 17 seconds left until halftime.
Cap scored three unanswered goals that came from free position shots. The first was by junior Mary Manos (Canton, Ohio / Jackson), the second was by Titus, and the third by Barclay.
Adams scored the second Fighting Muskies goal with 26:30 left in the game.
Rampi tallied her second goal as she beat the keeper. Senior Alexis Juergensen (Canton, Ohio / Jackson) picked up the assist.
Manos scored on another free position shot to put Cap up 10-2.
Junior Taylor Thomas (Massillon, Ohio / Jackson) scored back-to-back goals. She was assisted by Hanood on both of the goals. Capital ran the same exact play and scored less than 30 seconds apart.
Manos capped off the night with the game's final goal, her third, with 4:33 left on the clock.
The Crusaders had a relatively dominant night as they outshot the Fighting Muskies 36-12. Cap had the upper hand as it cleared all 14 possible chances. Capital had a slight advantage in ground balls, 21-18. Cap won 10 draw controls, compared to Muskingum's 7.
The lone category that the Muskies performed better than Cap was saves, 12-6. Adams scored the only Muskingum goals. Kate Shamel made 12 saves for the Fighting Muskies.
Senior Maddie Wilson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Chagrin Falls) improved to 8-2 on the season in goal for Cap. Wilson conceded just two goals on the day and grabbed a team-high three ground balls. Freshman Katie Parks (Loveland, Ohio / Loveland) made one stop on the only shot she saw in just under eight minutes of action.
Manos had a game-high three goals. She also collected a game-high five draw controls. Thomas, Rampi, Ozenghar, and Barclay all scored two times each. Husain earned her 100th point with her lone assist. Titus and Hanood both assisted on two goals, while each scored one goal.
With the victory, Capital is now 8-2 overall and 3-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference action. The Crusaders return to the friendly confines of Bernlohr Stadium Friday night as they host the University of Mount Union Purple Raiders. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
