COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's lacrosse team was in action Saturday afternoon as it took on Baldwin Wallace University in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup. Regan Hanood had a team-high three goals, in the 9-8 loss.
The Yellow Jackets got on the board first, when Hannah Albrechta converted on a free position shot.
Less than a minute later, junior Regan Hanood (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington North) found the back of the net to tie the game. Freshman Brianna Rampi (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Darby) assisted on the goal.
Albrechta scored on another free position shot to put BW back on top, 2-1.
Junior Kara Hines (Columbus, Ohio / Worthington Kilbourne) tied the game up, when she beat the keeper on a free position shot.
Baldwin Wallace scored the game's next two goals, which put them up 4-2 with 3:11 left in the half.
Senior Korri Titus (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington North) found Hines in the shooting area. Hines then beat the BW keeper to pull Cap within one.
The Yellow Jackets added another goal to extend their lead to 5-3 with just over a minute left until halftime.
Junior Taylor Thomas (Massillon, Ohio / Jackson) battled and collected a ground ball in front of the BW net. Thomas then managed to get a shot off, while being hit with three defenders sticks, and beat the goalie to the top near post. The goal came with just 10 ticks left on the clock before the half.
Baldwin Wallace extended its lead to 6-4, with the first goal of the second half.
Hanood picked up her second goal of the game, to cut the lead to 6-5.
After a BW goal, Capital went on a 3-0 run. The first goal was scored by junior Victoria Husain (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville South). Husain scored on an unassisted goal. Hanood found the back of the net for her third goal of the game. Titus put Cap up by two when she battled through traffic and put a shot past the net minder.
The Yellow Jackets picked up the final two goals of the game, including the game-winner with just 42 seconds left on the clock.
Maddie Russell finished with three goals for BW. Hannah Miller and Albrechta contributed with two goals. Amanda Getto picked up the win in net for the Yellow Jackets.
The game was a fairly even contest and the stats resembled that. Capital and BW both collected 21 ground balls. Baldwin Wallace converted 13 clear attempts while Cap had 11. The Crusaders forced more turnovers, 18-17, and held the advantage in draw controls, 11-8. Capital outshot BW 23-16. The Yellow Jackets converted 3-of-6 free position shots, whereas Cap was 1-for-3.
Senior Maddie Wilson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Chagrin Falls) got just her second blemish of the season. Wilson made five saves. Hanood tied a season-high with three goals. Hines tallied two goals.
Senior Shannon Walton (Fairview Park, Ohio / Magnificat) had a huge game defensively for the Crusaders. Walton tied a career-high, with five caused turnovers.
With the loss, Cap drops to 7-2 overall and 2-1 in the OAC. The Crusaders return to action Wednesday night as they travel to New Concord, Ohio to take on the Fighting Muskies of Muskingum University. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
