WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Capital University women's lacrosse team fell 9-7 at cross-town rival Otterbein in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams traded goals through the first 12:39 of the opening half, before the Crusaders managed to respond following another goal by the Cardinals with back-to-back goals of their own, taking 4-3 lead at the 14:32 mark.

Nearly 11 minutes of play passed before Otterbein posted two goals in a span of just over a minute, heading into halftime with a slim 5-4 advantage over the Crusaders.

At the break, the Cardinals were outshooting the Crusaders 12-7, while Capital forced its opposition into 11 first half turnovers.

Capital surrendered four unanswered goals to Otterbein to open the second half of play, as the Cardinals boosted their score total to a 9-4 lead with 4:19 left in the final half.

The Crusaders then retaliated with three goals in-a-row over the final minutes of the second half, but to no avail, as they came up two goals short in their first-ever varsity meeting against Otterbein.

In total, Otterbein outshot the Crusaders 26-14, while both teams turned the ball over nearly an equal amount of times at 28 and 25, respectively.

Leading the way for the Crusaders was freshman midfielder Korri Titus (Pickerington, Ohio), who scored a team-high and tied a game-high with three goals, while corralling four ground balls.

Freshman midfielder Shannon Walton (Fairview Park, Ohio) followed with a pair of goals, while also picking up five ground balls. Classmate in attack Miranda Stellini (Dublin, Ohio) and sophomore attack Conner Quick (Grove City, Ohio) each tallied one goal apiece for the game.

Sophomore midfielder Kim Hoerauf (Worthington, Ohio) recorded a team-high three caused turnovers, while freshman goalie Maddie Wilson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) saved 10 of 19 shots faced in just her third loss in goal on the year.

With the loss, Capital (9-3 overall, 1-2 OAC) is now set to begin its final week of the regular season, beginning with the final non-conference contest of the regular season next Wednesday at Ursuline at 4 p.m. in Pepper Pike, Ohio.
