Crusaders Power Past Hilbert

COLUMBUS – The Capital University women's lacrosse team notched their seventh win of the season with a convincing 21-8 victory over Hilbert (N.Y.) in a non-conference affair on Saturday afternoon at Bernlohr Stadium.

In the first half of play, the Crusaders tallied four unanswered goals to open up the game, with all four scores coming off free position shots.

Hilbert then managed to tally its first goal of the contest at the 17:19 mark, with the two teams trading goals for the next 13 minutes.

Capital then recorded back-to-back goals with 2:37 remaining in the opening half, while the Hawks tacked on a late score just before halftime, cutting their deficit to 9-5 at the break.

At the half, the Crusaders outshot the Hawks 25-8, while forcing Hilbert into 16 first half turnovers.

As the second half of play unfolded, both teams traded goals through the first three and a half minutes of action, before Capital posted three straight goals to take a commanding 13-6 lead with 23:13 left in the game.

The Hawks then recorded their second goal of the half, scoring just under 20 seconds later, before the Crusaders scored four straight goals, inflating Capital's lead to 17-7.

Three additional goals were tacked on by the Crusaders in the final seven minutes of the contest, as Capital went on to secure a 13 point victory.

In total, the Crusaders outshot Hilbert 50-12, converting 9-17 free position shots, while also recording 24 caused turnovers on the afternoon.

Leading the way for the Crusaders was freshman midfielder Korri Titus (Pickerington, Ohio), who scored a varsity program and career-best eight goals on 12 total shots, 10 of them coming on goal.

Fellow freshman in attack Miranda Stellini (Dublin, Ohio) followed with career-best five goals on 10 shots, six of them coming on goal.

Sophomore Kim Hoerauf midfielder (Worthington, Ohio) and freshman midfielder Shannon Walton (Fairview Park, Ohio) recorded four and three goals, respectively, while Walton tied with Titus for a game-high seven draw control victories.

Freshman defender Alexis Jurgensen (Canton, Ohio) tallied her first goal of the season in the victory as well. Fellow freshman in goalie Maddie Wilson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) posted her seventh win in goal.

With the win, Capital (7-1 overall) is scheduled to return to the road for a two-game stint, as the Crusaders travel to Defiance this coming Wednesday for a 5 p.m. contest in Defiance, Ohio.
