The Capital University women's lacrosse team will open its inaugural season on March 1 at home against Franciscan University in the opener of its 2014 schedule, head coach Stacey Wood announced this week.
The Crusaders will play 14 games during the regular season, including eight at Bernlohr Stadium and four in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
After the opener against Franciscan, Capital will play three more non-conference games at home. The Crusaders take on Mount St. Joseph on March 5, and then welcome Calvin (Mich.) later that week on March 8. After a week away from action, Capital hosts NAIA foe Siena Heights (Mich.) on March 16.
The Crusaders begin a three-game road trip at reigning Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament champion Thiel (Pa.) on March 22. Capital then plays back-to-back road games against Waynesburg (Pa.) and Franciscan on March 28-29.
The Crusaders then return home for three of their next four. Capital hosts Hilbert (N.Y.) on April 5, then heads to Defiance, which is also in its inaugural season, for a non-conference contest on April 9.
The Crusaders open the OAC season on April 12 against Mount Union, which posted a 13-1 overall record in 2013. Capital welcomes Wilmington to Bernlohr on April 16 for another conference showdown.
After a visit to cross-town league rival Otterbein on April 19, the Crusaders visit Ursuline, another first-year program, on April 24.
Capital closes the regular season on April 26 at home against Baldwin Wallace. Play in the four-team OAC Tournament begins on April 30 with the semifinals. The tournament final is scheduled for May 3.
