MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Capital University women's golf team traveled to Montgomery, Alabama to compete in the Faulker University Spring Invitational. The tournament featured a field of eight, and Capital served as the lone non-Division II school in the group. The Crusaders, led by Madison Harsh, finished sixth overall.
Sophomore Madison Harsh (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) came out of the break and played right around her fall season average of 87.56. She beat that mark in her first round after firing off an 86 and exiting the first round tied for 19th overall. She came back on Tuesday and shot an 88 but fell just one spot to end the tournament in the top 20. Her two-round total (174) led the six Crusaders that participated in the invitational.
Senior Sydney Kelly (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) followed up close behind her teammate with a 22nd-place finish. Kelly ended her 36-hole performance just five strokes behind Harsh after turning in scorecards of 89 and 90 (179).
Senior Kaitlyn Kinley (94-92-186) and sophomore Molly Frey (100-93-193) rounded out Cap's top four finishers and score contributors. Frey displayed the largest leap on the CU leaderboard with a seven-stroke improvement.
The tournament was held at RTJ Golf Trail at Capitol Hill - Senior Course, which featured a par-72, 5,831 yard course.
Women's Golf will break for three weeks and return to the links at Lakeside Golf Club in Marietta, Ohio for the Marietta Pioneer Classic. The two-day tournament will take place on March 23-24.
