HARROD, Ohio – Weather was not kind to the field of more than 30 golfers at this weekend's Ohio Northern University Invitational, held at the Colonial Golfers Club. However, sophomore Katie Lease represented Capital University well, leading the Crusaders to a third-place finish and her best individual placement of the season.
Lease, a native of Hilliard, Ohio (Hilliard Davidson), finished the weekend in a tie for second-place honors. Despite weather shortening the tournament to 27 holes, Lease was consistently toward the top of the leaderboard, and finished that way after Sunday's final round. She ended round one with a 49 through nine holes, good for a share of seventh place. She elevated her status on the leaderboard while lowering her score but shooting a second-day 90, the second-lowest score on the day.
Capital put two of its student-athletes inside the top 10 in the tournament. Joining Lease was freshman Kaitlyn Kinley (Sycamore, Ohio), who finished seven shots of the pace of her teammate. With a 51-95-146, Kinley tied for eighth place overall on the individual leaderboard.
Janie Moller (Pickerington, Ohio) also shot a respectable 153 (49-104) to help the Crusaders place third out of five teams. Capital shot 596 (201-395) as a team and held off Columbus State by three shots.
Otterbein University won the team title with a 568 (193-375) scorecard, while host Ohio Northern (198-388-586) finished second.
Capital's next tournament will be the Trine University Spring Classic, held at the Zollner Golf Club in Angola, Ind. on April 8-9.
