Capital Upsets Muskingum 84-79

NEW CONCORD, Ohio - Capital University Women's Basketball secured its first conference win of the season against Muskingum University. The Crusaders displayed their offensive stamina as part of an 84-79 victory over the Fighting Muskies. The Purple and White now sit at 4-3 on the season.  

Capital scored the first basket of the game and shortly after went on an 8-0 run. The Crusaders continued their offensive momentum throughout the first quarter, outscoring the Fighting Muskies, 21-9. Senior, Elli Wachtman (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington), scored five points and secured one assist for the Purple and White. Freshman, Kaylee Cyphers (Cedarville, Ohio/Cedarville), chipped in five points for the Crusaders with a jumper and two free throws. 

The strength of play was evened up in the second quarter with both teams scoring 20 points. The Purple and White's play in the first quarter carried them into the half with the lead. Freshman, Erika Linder (Prospect, Ohio/Pleasant), put up five points for the Crusaders with two free throws and a three-point jumper. Seniors, Cassidy Bosch (Logan, Ohio / Logan) and Wachtman, both scored four points each in the second. Capital went into the half ahead 41-29. 

In the third quarter, Wachtman led the Crusaders in points with one free throw and a layup. Muskingum outscored Capital 22-20, but the Crusaders still held onto a 10-point lead.  

Capital scored a total of 23 points in the fourth quarter to end the game 84-79. Sophomore, Emma Burns (Westerville, Ohio/St. Francis Desales), scored nine points, going 6-6 at the free-throw line and securing a three-pointer.  


  • Emma Burns and Elli Wachtman led the team with 18 points each.
  • Brook Ommert and Elli Wachtman led the team with five rebounds each. 
  • As a unit, Capital shot 25% from the 3-point range (2-8).
  • The Crusaders shot 53.1% from the field (26-49). 
  • Capital made 26 free throws, finishing 81.3% from the line.



Capital will return to the Capital Center this Saturday to take on Ohio Northern University. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
