Capital caught the eyes of the coaches around the conference, leading to one first-place vote and a total of 55 points. That point total ranked the Crusaders fourth out of 10 teams. They were one of four teams to earn at least one first-place vote.

Ohio Northern University (78) is this year's favorite to repeat as OAC Champion after taking the regular and tournament titles and finishing the 2016-17 season undefeated in conference play. Marietta College (67), which beat Capital in the OAC Tournament Quarterfinal last year, was recognized for its progress and was picked to finish second. They earned two of the remaining three first-place votes. Baldwin Wallace University earned 59 points and the final first-place vote to rank third.

Wilmington College (53), Otterbein University (45), the University of Mount Union (36), and Muskingum University (25) were ranked fifth through eighth. Heidelberg University and John Carroll University each garnered 16 points and share ninth place.

Last year, Capital won five out of their first seven conference games to help overcome a slow final month of the season. They earned the No. 7 seed in the 2016-17 OAC Tournament and then upset rival Otterbein to advance to the semifinals.

Capital returns nine players from last year's squad, including OAC Freshman of the Year Elli Wachtman. The Crusaders will welcome nine freshmen to help fill out the ranks. They open the regular season against Rochester University (N.Y.) at the Chuck Resler Tournament on Nov. 17. Their first home game is set for Tuesday, Nov. 21 against Wittenberg University.
