COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's basketball team announced its schedule for the 2017-18 season on Thursday, August 10, 2017. This year's slate features 13 home games and the Crusaders will again host its annual Marriott Christmas Tournament just before the New Year.

The Purple and White will begin its season with a trip to Rochester, N.Y., for the Chuck Resler Tournament on Nov. 17-18. The tournament's field of competitors consists of Thomas More College, Calvin College, and host Rochester. Last season, all three teams made the NCAA Tournament. Thomas More finished the season ranked No. 7 in the country in the WBCA Coaches' Top-25 Poll and joined Rochester in the second round of the national tournament.

Capital will play its home opener against the Tigers of Wittenberg University on Nov. 21. Last year Cap defeated Wittenberg, 65-50, to begin the season.

Two more formidable await on the road with trips to Pittsburgh, Pa. to play Carnegie Mellon University (Nov. 29) in a nonconference matchup and then to Ada, Ohio where nationally-ranked Ohio Northern University (Dec. 2) awaits. The Polar Bears serve as the defending OAC tournament and regular season champions.

Cap will return to the friendly confines of The Capital Center for three straight home contests in the heart of December, two of which are conference games. A showdown with Muskingum University on Dec. 6 begins the home stand, and is then followed by round one of the rivalry with Otterbein University. The three-game home stand ends with a matchup against the Gators of Allegheny College on Dec. 12.

Capital will host its annual Marriott Christmas Tournament on Dec. 29 and 30. The tournament will feature Denison University, Kenyon College and Franklin College. The final schedule for the tournament will be announced at a later time.

Each of Capital's next three opponents are teams that split the season series a year ago. The Crusaders kick off 2018 with a road trip to Wilmington College on Jan. 3 before hosting John Carroll University on Jan. 6. Cap then hits the road again to play the Student Princes of Heidelberg University on Jan. 10.

Four of the next six games will be played at home to fill out the month of January including tilts with the University of Mount Union (Jan. 13), Marietta College (Jan. 17), Ohio Northern (Jan. 27), and Heidelberg (Jan. 31). Embedded within that stretch of games is the second meeting between cross-town rivals when Otterbein hosts Cap on Jan. 20.

Capital will end the month with to matchups at home. Ohio Northern will be in town on the 27 and Heidelberg on the 31.

The month of February kicks off with two of its three road contests during the month with trips to Mount Union (Feb. 3) and Marietta (Feb. 7) planned. Cap's final two regular season home games will featured Baldwin Wallace on Feb. 10 when Senior Day will be celebrated, and then Wilmington on Feb. 14. John Carroll hosts Cap in the regular season finale on Feb. 17.

The Crusaders look to improve on last season's 11-16 overall record. After finishing 6-12 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, Capital secured the eighth seed, setting up a down-to-the-wire win over Otterbein in Westerville in the opening round of the OAC Tournament followed by a second-round game against Marietta.
