AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Athletic Conference announced its 2016-17 Winter Academic all-conference honorees on Tuesday, March 14. Seven Capital University student-athletes made the grade, including three that make a return trip to said list.
Four women's basketball players and three men's basketball players joined a group of 120 student-athletes from around the OAC to garner Academic All-OAC laurels for winter sports. Of those doing so for the first time include sophomores Erin Risner (Canfield, Ohio/Canfield), Emily Ondo (Pittsburg, Pa./Shaler Area), Caleb Cox (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills), and Austin Schreck (Erlanger, Ky./Dixie Heights).
Senior Colleen Fondessy (Fostoria, Ohio/St. Wendelin) serves as the most highly decorated Capital student-athlete out of the group after making the list for the third time in her career. Junior Annika Wachtman (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington) earned her second Academic All-OAC honor.
On the men's side, junior Brennan Czuchran (Rayland, Ohio/Buckeye Local) earned a spot on the list for a second time in his career.
The Ohio Athletic Conference Winter All-Academic team for the winter season is comprised of student-athletes that is at least a sophomore, holds varsity status and maintains a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher from the following sports: men's and women's basketball, wrestling, and men's and women's swimming.
