Nine Crusaders Named to Academic All-OAC Team

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Athletic Conference announced its academic all-conference selections for the winter sports season. Nine Capital University student-athletes earned their way on to that list, including multiple three-time honorees.

Seven of the nine Crusaders on the winter season all-academic list hail from Capital Women's Basketball. Kristen Thompson (Cincinnati, Ohio), Nina Napolitano (Akron, Ohio) and Shelby Sigman (Bellbrook, Ohio) are all now three-time Academic All-OAC selections. They are the first to do so since Kristen Richardson '10 did so from 2008-10.

Senior Jenna Erwin (Springfield, Ohio) recorded her second Academic All-OAC honor, as did junior Colleen Fondessy (Fostoria, Ohio). First-time selections include sophomores Annika Wachtman (Upper Arlington, Ohio) and Melissa Veerman (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty).

The men's basketball team sported two academic all-conference players, each earning the award for the first time in their respective careers. Junior Wes Beam (Chillicothe, Ohio) and sophomore Brennan Czuchran (Rayland, Ohio) both represented the Crusaders on the men's side.

A total of 123 student-athletes were named Academic All-OAC around the conference. To achieve such status, award winners must be a sophomore or higher class standing, maintain varsity status and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50.

Capital sponsors only two of the five sports represented during the spring season. The other sports include men's and women's swimming & diving, and wrestling.
