AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Senior center fielder Bailey Walter of Capital University Softball has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week for her performance over eight games this past week, the conference announced on Monday.
Walter (Ashland, Ohio/Crestview) and the rest of the Crusaders opened their season in sunny Florida with eight games in the Sunshine State from Feb. 26-March 2. Walter led off each of the games for Capital and compiled 11 hits in 26 at-bats for a .423 average. The senior also walked twice, batted in three runners and scored three runs.
Four of Walter's games were multi-hit games and only once did she not get a hit, although in that game she worked a walk. Against Alma College (Mich.) on March 1, Walter hit a two-run triple and she scored the only run in Capital's 1-0 win over Johnson & Wales University on March 2.
Walter's .423 batting lead the team and her three RBIs are tied for second. She also leads the team with a .464 on-base percentage.
The Crusaders are off until Wednesday, March 14 when they will host Thomas More College (Ky.) for two games at 3 and 5 p.m.
