Capital University freshman Amber Martinelli of the softball team has earned Ohio Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week honors, the league announced Monday, April 21.

Martinelli, a Pittsburgh, Pa., native, tossed her first career complete-game shutout to lead Capital to a 1-0 victory over John Carroll in the second game of a doubleheader Friday at Clowson Field.

Making her third appearance and second start of the season, Martinelli faced just two batters over the minimum, allowing just one hit while walking none and striking out four. She picked up her first career victory and improved to 1-1 on the year, lowering her earned run average by more than six runs to 2.80 with the stellar performance.

Martinelli and the Crusaders visit Kenyon for a non-conference doubleheader this afternoon before wrapping up play with twin bills at Bluffton (Wednesday) and Ohio Northern (Saturday).

Each week, OAC coaches and sports information directors nominate student-athletes for each sport in season for the award.
