Capital Men’s Cross Country Slotted Eighth in OAC Poll

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Athletic Conference announced its annual preseason cross country coaches poll on Wednesday and the Capital University men have been predicted to finish eighth. The Crusaders earned 28 total points.

The John Carroll University Blue Streaks earned the most points in the conference with 72 and received four first-place votes. Ohio Northern University came in just behind JCU with 71 points and three first-place votes. Otterbein University garnered two first-place votes and 68 points while the University of Mount Union picked up the last remaining first-place vote and 62 points.

Rounding out the top five is Baldwin Wallace University with 49 points, followed by Heidelberg University and its 41 points. Wilmington College placed seventh with 29 points, just ahead of the Crusaders. Muskingum University (21 points) and Marietta College (nine) rounded out the poll.

Senior Andrew Rus and junior Nathan Hutchins are the lone returners from the 2017 cross country runners but junior Christian Vermillion and sophomore Jonas Pyle will join the team after competing in distance events during the track & field season. Freshmen Daniel McPherson, Nathan Rini and EJ Rondez fill out the roster.

Capital's season will begin on Friday, Aug. 31 at the Battle for Columbus meet hosted by Otterbein.
