Men’s Cross Country Wraps Up Season at Regional Championship

POWELL, Ohio – Capital University Men's Cross Country put a bow in its 2017 season following its competition at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Championship on Saturday afternoon. Despite brisk conditions at Liberty Park in Powell, Ohio, Derek Knabe paced Capital with a top-50 finish in his final cross country race.

As a team, Capital finished 31st out of 36 teams behind 814 points. Calvin College ran away with the regional championship behind 61 points, and John Carroll University served as the OAC's top team finisher.

Senior Derek Knabe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was Cap's top performer, placing 47th overall behind a time of 26:43.9.

There was slight gap between Knabe and the rest of the team. Capital's next placer was sophomore Calvin Lortie (Mount Vernon, Ohio/Mount Vernon) who stopped the clock at 28:17.8 and finished 145th overall.

Senior Aaron Fox (28:40.1) and sophomore Quinton Napier (31:29.8) both set new season lows, while sophomore Nathan Hutchins (31:29.8) rounded out Capital's lineup in the 8,000-meter race.
