COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University Men's and Women's Cross Country teams will each be participating in the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, hosted by Heidelberg University.
On the men's side, senior Derek Knabe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) has only participated in two races due to injury but he finished first among Capital runners in each and won the Otterbein Battle of Columbus in the first race of the year on Sept. 1 with a time of 15:59.5.
Fellow senior Calvin Lortie (Mount Vernon, Ohio/Mount Vernon) has also turned in a strong season, finishing second on the Capital team three times and pacing the Crusaders on Sept. 29 at the All-Ohio Championships with a time of 29:03.8.
Junior Aaron Fox (Commercial Point, Ohio/Teays Valley) was the first Crusader to finish on two occasions. At the Allegheny Cross County Classic on Sept. 16, Fox stopped the clock at 22:09 and on Sept. 23, Fox finished second overall at the Columbus State Cougar Classic, completing the 5k course in 17:30.
For the women, junior Mackenzie Meyers (Ashville, Ohio/Teays Valley) and senior Hannah Westhoven (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon) have paced the Crusaders with Meyers finishing first in the team's first three races and Westhoven finishing first in the past two. Each runner finished second on the team in the races they didn't finish first.
At the Columbus State Cougar Classic, Meyers finished first overall with a time of 19:10.
Westhoven has finished 15th or better in each of the team's five meets and came in second overall at the Cougar classic with a time of 19:49.
Rachel Rus (Highland Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) has been the third Crusader to finish in each of the five races.
