TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Saturday afternoon, Capital Men's Cross Country competed in the last meet of the season at the 2015 NCAA Division III Great Lakes Men's Cross Country Regional. The event was held at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Lavern Gibson Championship Course.
The Crusaders this week lost two out of five of their top runners due to illness and managed to pull out a 33rd place finish, breaking the tape before Transylvania University, Earlham College, and Mount St. Joseph University in the Great Lakes Regional 8k race.
Sophomore Derek Knabe (Cincinnati, Ohio) one of the leaders for the Crusaders this season was the first Capital runner across the line with a time of 28:36 and a 175th place finish out of 224 competitors.
Beating the 30 minute mark was sophomore Aaron Fox (Commercial Point, Ohio) with a 186th place finish with a time of 28:50.
Christian Vermillion (Hilliard, Ohio/ Hilliard Darby) was the next runner for Capital across the line with a steady time of 30:03.
Round out the lineup for the Crusaders was freshman Bryce Walker (Columbia, Md.) with a time of 34:29 and junior Dan Giffin (Toledo, Ohio) at 36:36.
Senior Geno Arthur from Oberlin University won the individual title with a time of 25:13.7.
The regional championship`s first-place team finisher this year was Wabash University (99) taking four of the top 24 spots. Taking second place was Allegheny University (101), and the third place finisher was Calvin University (122).
