Crusaders Fly at Flyer 5K

COLUMBUS – The Capital University men's cross country team competed at the Flyer 5K hosted by the University of Dayton on Saturday, marking the first meet of the 2014 season for the Crusaders.

A total of nine teams competed in the race, including fellow Division III schools Denison and Wittenberg, as well as Division I schools Dayton, Louisville, Miami (OH), Northern Kentucky, Ohio State, and Wright State.

Capital placed third out of as many teams in the Class B Intercollegiate team race, as two Crusaders placed in the top 75 of a total of 96 runners.

Freshman Derek Knabe (Cincinnati, Ohio) paced the Crusaders in 69th place with a time of 17:40.6.

Sophomore Andrew Stroh (Hilliard, Ohio) followed with a time of 17:41.2, good for 71st place, while classmate Kaleb Perez (Woodville, Ohio) checked in with a time of 18:54.2.

Freshmen Malik Holmes (Ashville, Ohio) and Aaron Fox (Commercial Point, Ohio) also competed for Capital, as Holmes finished with a time of 19:01.1 and Fox checked in at 19:24.5. Classmate Bailey McBeth (New Philadelphia, Ohio) rounded out the Crusaders' pack at 20:01.7.

Capital's next meet is set for Sept. 6 at the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University at Liberty Park in Powell, Ohio.
