AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Capital University junior Josh Miller has opened the indoor track & field season on strong footing with multiple career bests, a nationally-ranked performance and now an Ohio Athletic Conference weekly award.
Josh Miller (Botkins, Ohio/Botkins) was named OAC Male Field Athlete of the Week after setting new lifetime personal records in both events that he competed in at the Ashland Open on January 11. In one event, his performance lofted him into the Division III national rankings. This is the first OAC weekly award of his career.
In the shot put, his specialty, Miller recorded a best toss of 16.65 meters (54-7.5), the first of his two PRs on the day. This result placed him fifth overall in the competition. More importantly, this performance ranks him second nationally in the shot put. The result also has a high likelihood to qualify him for the national meet.
Though he placed 13th overall in a strong field that included competitors from all three divisions, Miller set a new best with a long distance of 15.52 meters (50-11) in a weight throw. That distance set a new personal record in that event, as well.
