MARIETTA, Ohio – Capital University Men's Track & Field braved the elements on Saturday to compete in the Pioneer Open hosted by Marietta College, the team's second meet of the indoor season. The Crusaders placed 7th out of 12 teams with 39 points.

For the second week in a row, senior jumper John Seman won the high jump competition and earned the maximum 10 points for Capital. Seman cleared 1.83 meters on his first attempt, the only athlete in the event to do so, to earn the win.

In the 55-meter dash finals, sophomore Noah Meeker earned the team eight points with a second-place time of 6.75 seconds after placing third in the preliminary round. Meeker then followed that race up with a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash by reaching the finish line in 23.70 seconds. Meeker also contributed in the field events with a fifth-place leap of 6.05 meters in the long jump.

Junior Corbin Brown built on the strong start to his season by earning a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.71 seconds.

Freshman distance runner Grant Ward's mark of 2:52.51 in the 1,000-meter race was good enough for fourth place while Nathan Hutchins finished eighth in the same event with a time of 3:07.65 to earn the Crusaders a point.

The Crusaders will host the annual Jessica Starks Open for their next event on Saturday, Jan. 26 in The Capital Center Fieldhouse. The pole vault will kick things off at 9:30 a.m. with the rest of the field events beginning at noon and the running events scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
