COLUMBUS, Ohio – Thrower Jason Coon will represent Capital University Men's Track & Field at the 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday, May 25 in La Crosse, Wis. after qualifying for the championships in the shot put.

Coon (Bernville, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) holds the 13th-best mark in the country, a 16.43-meter (53-11) launch achieved last week at the Great Lakes NCAA Final Qualifying Meet. The senior won that event giving him four event wins this outdoor season. He has also finished second twice and fifth once. Coon has eclipsed the 16-meter mark five times this season with his previous season-best throw of 16.42 meters coming on May 4 at the Ohio Open.

This is Coon's second trip to the outdoor championships. In 2016, he placed 10th with a heave of 16.33 meters. Coon earned his first All-American nod this past indoor season with a seventh-place finish in the shot at the 2018 Indoor Championships in early March.

On Friday, the event is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. and Coon will be one of 20 throwers in the competition. The top nine finishers after ties will advance to the finals.  For a full list of participants, click here. A full schedule for all three days of the Outdoor Championships can be found here.
