AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Following another dominating performance in the shot put, Capital University Men's Track & Field senior thrower Jason Coon has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Competing at the Jessica Starks Open on Jan. 27, Coon (Bernville, Pa. / Schuylkill Valley) won the shot put competition with a throw of 16.25 meters. The win was his third in a row in the shot put to start the season. Coon's winning throw in the finals beat the second-place finisher's by 0.28 meters.

Coon's mark on Saturday was his second-best of the season behind a throw of 16.45 meters he achieved at the OAC South Split Meet on Jan. 19. That throw still ranks as the second-longest shot put by an OAC athlete this season and the fifth-longest in the nation. At the Otterbein Invitational on Jan. 13, Coon won the event with a throw of 16.12 meters.

Coon will look to make it four wins in a row and the rest of the Crusaders will hope to improve on a second-place team finish this upcoming weekend at the Joe Banks Invitational hosted by Ohio Northern University on Saturday, Feb. 3.
