Field Events Make Their Mark at the Joe Banks Invitational

ADA, Ohio – Capital University's men's track and field team faced 15 teams at the Joe Banks Invitational held at the Ohio Northern University Sports Center on Saturday afternoon. Capital took seventh in team standings with 52 points.

Junior Logan Allison (Gallipolis, Ohio) had a victory in triple jump with a mark of 14.07 meters (46-02.00). Allison was a few centimeters shy of his personal best mark of 14.18 meters (46-06.25) set at the 2016 Ohio Athletic Championship.

Junior Jason Coon (Reading, Pennsylvania) achieved a first-place honor in the shot put in a tough field of 39 competitors with a toss of 15.03 meters (49-03.75).

Junior Derek Knabe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) made a pair of notable finishes in the one-mile run and the 1,000-meter run (2:43.17) coming in third and fourth place. Knabe's one- mile run of 4:26.40 set a new second-place Capital top-10 program time that was set by him the previous week at the Jessica Starks Open in 4:32.64.

The 4x200-meter relay changed up their lineup this week making a fifth-place finish in 1:34.28. The new relay team lineup included Allison, junior Nicholas Santos (Annandale, Virginia/Falls Church), junior Mason Trezise (Eagar, Ariz./Round Valley), and freshman Trevor Collins (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty).

Freshman Corbin Brown (East Sparta, Ohio/Sandy Valley) picked up points in the 500-meter run with a sixth-place finish in a time of 1:11.79.

Junior Aaron Fox (Commercial Point, Ohio/Teays Valley) in the 5,000-meter run made a noteworthy finish clocking in a personal record time of 16:41.67.

The men's 4x400-meter relay team round out the top-5 relay teams with a time of 3:34.20. The team included Santos, Brown, freshman Tim Trentel (Lakewood, Ohio/St. Ignatius), and Trezise.

Junior Colby Owen (Perryville, Md./Perryville) wrapped up the highlights of the night with a big throw of 15.69 meters (51-05.7) making for a third-place toss in the weight throw.

Otterbein University lead the team standings this week with 107.50 points. Host Ohio Northern University (91) took second place and Case Western Reserve University (79) rounded out the top three teams.

The Crusaders will compete at the All-Ohio Indoor Championships next week held at the Rike Center at Otterbein (Westerville, Ohio) on Saturday, Feb. 11.
