COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital University Men's Tennis solidified its place in the upcoming Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament with a 9-0 victory over visiting Heidelberg University on Monday afternoon. In addition to the team's win, Graeme Green extended his singles winning streak to 10 matches.
Just after the conference office announced Graeme Green (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) as the most recent OAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the freshman went to work on obtaining his 10th straight singles win and continue his unbeaten streak that has spanned nearly two weeks.
Green teamed up with junior John Roberts and together the tandem earned its fourth straight win, defeating Kyle Alexander and J.T. Vaughn, 8-0. C.J. Martin and Santino DiMichaelangelo also won its doubles bout in top-flight action against Tate Schoen and Paul Claymier by the same score.
The Crusaders cruised through singles play with Green and Martin sweeping their opponents by 6-0, 6-0 scores. DiMichaelangelo took down Kyle Alexander at number three, 6-1, 6-2. Hunter Walter and Roberts beat their respective opponents by identical 6-0, 6-1 scores to complete the shutout. Heidelberg defaulted number three doubles and number six singles.
The match was moved to the Olympic Indoor Tennis Club after rains moved through Columbus earlier than expected.
Green has now won 10 consecutive singles matches to remain undefeated on the season.
The win clinches Capital's spot in the 2018 OAC Tournament and will serve as the number six seed in the upcoming tournament. The Crusaders have one match remaining, a home contest against the University of Mount Union on Saturday, April 28. First serve from Wolfe Park is set for 1 p.m.
