MARIETTA, Ohio – The Capital University men's tennis team traveled to Marietta College on Wednesday afternoon where the Crusaders cashed in and returned home with a 9-0 win over the Pioneers. Graeme Green continued his solid play and remains undefeated on the singles circuit.
Marietta defaulted two points to the Crusaders off the bat after only being able to dress five for Wednesday's competition at the Beren Family Tennis Center.
Capital's top two doubles teams both came away with 8-1 wins to account for a clean sweep. Freshman Graeme Green (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) and C.J. Martin (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) played as a team in the top spot while Santino DiMichaelangelo (Westerville, Ohio/St. Francis Desales) and John Roberts (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) paired up at number two, each defeating their respective opponents.
Green then improved his overall singles record to 7-0 after defeating Marietta's Jack Hirschfield 6-1, 6-2 in just his second match out of the number one position in the lineup.
Martin and DiMichaelangelo both dispensed of their opponents in straight sets without surrendering a point at number two and number three, respectively. Roberts took care of Brandon DeCicco 6-1, 6-0 at number four singles while senior Hunter Walter (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) won his bout with Alex Hogan 6-3, 6-2, to complete the shutout.
Capital (4-5, 2-2 OAC) will have a busy weekend with back-to-back conference matches on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, April 21, the Crusaders will hit the road to play Baldwin Wallace (10-4, 1-3) at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio. On Sunday, Cap will host rival Otterbein University (8-6, 2-1) at Wolfe Park in Bexley.
