COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital University Men's Tennis rolled in its nonconference match with Shawnee State University on Wednesday afternoon. Following a change of venue, Capital did not change course en route to a 9-0 win over the Bears.
The top doubles pair of senior C.J. Martin (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) and Santino DiMichaelangelo (Westerville, Ohio/St. Francis Desales) took care of business by defeating CJ Burk and Nate Hinze in shutout fashion. Cap's number-two pairing of Graeme Green (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) and John Roberts (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) had similar success following an 8-1 victory over Zach Colley and Matthew Bryant. Seniors Hunter Walter (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) and Ben Heiland (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) kept CU perfect through doubles play with an 8-4 win over Shawnee's Casper Nolte and Shane Hitchens.
The Crusaders took all six flights in singles play and four times kept the Bears scoreless in a set. Only twice did a Bears player record more than two points against a CU player in a given set.
Freshman Graeme Green won his fourth straight singles match in the second spot of the Capital lineup, defeating Colley, 6-0, 6-0.
Martin took down Hinze in the top-flight match, 6-2, 6-0. DiMichaelangelo, Roberts, Walter, and Heiland all landed decisive singles victories as well.
The match was played at Scarborough Tennis Club after rains washed out play originally scheduled at Wolfe Park.
Cap will play its next match on Friday, March 30 versus Ohio Northern University. The match is scheduled to be played at Wolfe Park in Bexley, Ohio and begin at 3:30 p.m., weather permitting.
