STUEBENVILLE, Ohio – Capital University Men's Tennis lost to Franciscan University at the Belleview Courts in Stuebenville, Ohio on Saturday afternoon. With the 8-1 loss, the Crusaders fall to 0-2 on the young season with one more match to play in its fall season.
For the second straight match, Capital was forced to forfeit two points off the bat with just five healthy players ready for Saturday's match.
Cap's lone match winner came out of the number three singles spot where junior John Roberts (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) defeated Jarek Sulak by a 6-2, 6-3 score.
Senior C.J. Martin (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) went the distance with Franciscan's Jon Walmach in the top flight singles match. After falling in the first set, 6-4, Martin came back and rolled to a 6-3 win. The tiebreaker was a race to 10, which Walmach won 10-6.
Capital (0-2) has one last match to close out its shortened fall season. The Crusaders will play Walsh University in North Canton on Friday, Oct. 13 at 12 p.m.
