WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Capital University Men's Tennis made easy work of Berea College (Ky.) in a neutral site match at Otterbein University, Sunday afternoon. Capital broke a lengthy struck of hard luck with the 9-0 win.
Capital (3-13) switched up its doubles lineup and had a successful outcome with a pair of 8-4 wins plus an 8-0 shutout. Senior Dale Booher (Hartville, Ohio/Lake) paired up with junior Santino DiMichaelangelo (Westerville, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) in the top doubles match and downed Zac White and Austsin Worley, 8-4. In the number three spot, junior Hunter Walter (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) and junior Ben Heiland (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) replicated that outcome against the Berea pair of Avery Matthews and Michael Malpartida. Earning the shutout was the team of sophomore John Roberts (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) and junior C.J. Martin (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) took down Ethan Hughes and Chris Malpartida.
Success followed the Purple and White into singles play. Booher took care of business with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Zac White in the top flight match. Martin followed suit in the two spot, defeating Chris Malpartida, 6-1, 6-0. Roberts and Mathews matched up in the third singles match, where Roberts earned the win, 6-0, 6-3.
The bottom of the Capital lineup earned a trio of wins, as well. DiMichaelangelo outlasted Worley in a tough-fought 7-5, 6-4 decision, while Walter (def. M. Malpartida, 6-4, 6-1) and Heiland (def. Issac Domenech, 6-2, 6-3) also pulled down victories to complete the shutout.
Capital jumps back into Ohio Athletic Conference play with a road trip to Tiffin, Ohio where Heidelberg University awaits. The match was originally scheduled to be played on April 4 but was moved due to weather. It will also serve as their third match in as many days.
