ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Capital Men's Tennis stepped up its game in faceoff with an NCAA Division II opponent on Thursday night. The Purple and White were unable to match with Eckerd College and was handed a 9-0 loss at Dick Bullard Courts in St. Petereburg.
Senior Dale Booher (Hartville, Ohio/Lake) was part of Capital's best battles against the Tritons, despite both resulting in a loss. Booher and junior teammate C.J. Martin (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard) paired up for a top-flight doubles match with Victor Appelqvist and Alasdair Knox, but fell 8-4 in a competitive bout.
On the singles side, Booher took more points than any other Capital player but ultimately fell to Appelqvist 6-4, 6-1.
Martin took on Eddie Lewis at number two singles, but fell by counts of 6-1, 6-2.
The match was the first of the spring for the Tritons and improved their record to 1-3.
Capital now rests with a 2-8 overall record but will jump back into play on Friday morning. The Crusaders will play two matches to conclude their spring break trip. They begin the day with a regional match against Hanover College (Ind.) at 9 a.m. and then will play another Division II school, Florida Institute of Technology (5-2) to round out their stay at the USTA National Complex.
