COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's tennis team cruised to a shutout victory over Heidelberg University on Monday at the CU Tennis Courts. Capital is now 4-3 in conference play and 9-12 overall.
Every Crusader that hit the court came away with victory be it in singles or doubles play. The three Capital doubles teams rolled to large-margin victories to jump out to a hot start. Senior Gian Carlo DiMichaelangelo (Westerville, Ohio/St. Francis Desales) and Dale Booher (Hartville, Ohio) were elevated to top-flight doubles and rolled to an 8-0 win. C.J. Martin (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) and Beau Streety (Tuscon, Ariz.) surrendered just one point in their win, while seniors Luke Buchanan and Jared Judson locked down the number three spot with a shutout fashion.
Buchanan took care of Heidelberg's number one option, Jonathan Long, in straight sets without giving up a game. Booher at the two won 6-3, 6-2 over Benjamin Moore, while Martin defeated Tyler Flickinger 6-4, 6-4.
In the four through six spots, Gian Carlo DiMichaelangelo and Jared Judson rattled off straight set victories, while Santino DiMichaelangelo came back from one set down to defeat Kyle Simpson 4-6, 6-0, 10-8 in a tiebreaker.
With its win, Capital now sits in fourth place in the OAC with one regular season match left to play. The Crusaders will take on Ohio Northern at home on Saturday, April 30 with the match beginning at 1 p.m.
