MARIETTA, Ohio – The Capital University men's tennis team featured some lineup changes going into Tuesday's match with Marietta College, and the result turned out favorable for the Crusaders. Capital improved to 3-1 in the conference with its 9-0 win over the Pioneers at Beren Tennis Center.
Doubles flowed smoothly with each Capital team pulling out large wins over their Pioneer opponents. Junior Dale Booher and senior GianCarlo DiMichaelangelo were elevated to the top doubles pair and defeated Shane Spencer and Andrew Stone, 8-1.
Sophomore C.J. Martin and junior Beau Streety shut out Alex Schaeffer and Muhammad Kingson in number-two doubles. Seniors Luke Buchanan and Jared Judson took down Tanner Sigman and Brendan Adkinson, 8-3 to complete the doubles sweep.
The Crusaders blew through all six singles matches just as easily. Martin was promoted to the top spot in the Capital lineup and earned his first win at that spot (6-3, 6-2) over Schaeffer. Buchanan took over the two spot and earned a 6-1, 6-2 win over Spencer.
Streety turned down Kingson without surrendering a point in the three hole while Booher defeated Sigman 6-1, 6-0 at number four singles.
Santino DiMichaelangelo got the nod at number five singles and earned a 6-3, 6-1 win over Stone, while Judson wrapped up the shutout win with a shutout victory over Adkinson.
Capital has three conference matches remaining in the regular season. The set begins with rival Otterbein University coming to town on Thursday, April 21 at 4 p.m.
