Men’s Tennis Takes Down Purple Raiders

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's tennis team improved to 3-0 at home and got another conference win with its 5-4 victory over the University of Mount Union on Saturday afternoon.

Capital (8-8, 2-1 OAC) began strong taking two of three doubles match. The combination of sophomore C.J. Martin (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Darby) and junior Beau Streety (Tuscon, Arix.) took down Jackson Schneider and Matt Bringman, 8-1, the second flight. They were followed in victory by seniors Luke Buchanan (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central) and Jared Judson (Dublin, ohio/Dublin Jerome), who defeated Bryce Payne and Kyle Hicken, 8-4, in the three spot.

Capital then rolled out three straight victories in singles play to clinch the match with three bouts to go. Those wins went to Martin, Judson, and Santino DiMichaelangelo (Westerville, Ohio/St. Francis Desales) in the fourth, fifth and sixth singles matches, respectively. Martin and Judson won their matches in straight sets while DiMichaelangelo won in three (6-1, 0-6, 7-6) over Tyler Tareshawty.

The Crusaders will step out of conference play for a road match against nationally-ranked Case Western Reserve on Sunday, April 17. In the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll released April 14, Case Western was sixth in the national poll and third in the Central Region. They will return to OAC competition on Tuesday, April 19 at Marietta College.
