DELAWARE, Ohio – The Capital University men's tennis team took a loss in its spring season opener at Ohio Wesleyan University, Saturday evening. The Battlin' Bishops defeated the Crusaders, 8-1, at the Gordon Field House.
Capital (2-2) trailed by just one coming out of doubles play. The combination of senior Jared Judson (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) and junior Beau Streety (Tuscon, Ariz.) pulled out a win, 9-8, after defeating Jack Hibbard and Alex Lutz in a tiebreaker (7-5). Tied 1-1, seniors Dale Booher and Gian Carlo DiMichaelangelo battled hard, but dropped an 8-6 decision in the third doubles flight.
Ohio Wesleyan handled its business in singles play, taking all six flights with relative ease. Capital's biggest challenge came from Booher who went down in three sets (5-7, 7-6, 5-10). Capital was unable claim another point, leading to its 8-1 loss.
The Crusaders will look to jump back into the win column in the Sunshine State when it spends a week in Florida for its spring break trip. There, Capital will play five matches over four days against local and regional competition, beginning with ASA College – Miami on March 1, in Orlando, Fla.
