Men's Tennis Defeats Trine at Home

COLUMBUS - The Capital University men's tennis team defeated Trine University (Ind.) 7-2 at the Capital tennis courts on Friday evening.

Capital (2-0 overall) picked up its second straight win to begin the season, winning 16 of 18 matches through two home competitions so far this year.

The Crusaders won four of six singles matches, including a pair of 6-1, 6-1 defeats in favor of sophomores Benny Balizar and Dale Booher (Hartville, Ohio). 

Senior Kenny Duncan (Poland, Ohio) also was victorious in his individual match, winning 6-1, 6-3. Sophomore Beau Streety (Tucson, Ariz.) tallied Capital's fourth win in singles, recording consecutive 6-3 victories. 

Juniors Luke Buchanan (Westerville, Ohio) and Jesse Faulkner (Columbus, Ohio) were each defeated by Trine in their singles matches, as Buchanan fell by consecutive scores of 6-2, while Faulkner split his first two sets (7-6, 1-6) before falling in the super tiebreaker, 1-0.

In the doubles competition, Booher and Buchanan teamed up to help the Crusaders win 8-2 over Trine, while Balizar and Duncan won by the same margin.

Streety and sophomore C.J. Martin picked up the other Capital doubles victory at 8-5.

With the win, the Crusaders are scheduled to travel to Grove City College for a match on Sept. 22 at 3:30 p.m. in Grove City, Pa.
