COLUMBUS – The Capital University men's tennis team got back to the .500 mark in Ohio Athletic Conference play Wednesday with a 9-0 victory over Heidelberg in a dual match at the Capital Tennis Courts.
The Crusaders (5-6 overall, 2-2 OAC) won all three doubles matches handily before taking all six singles matches, including five in straight sets.
Heidelberg dropped to 6-6 overall and 1-3 in the conference with the setback.
Sophomore Jared Judson (Dublin, Ohio) and freshman Beau Streety (Tuscon, Ariz.) posted the most lopsided doubles victory at the No. 3 spot, recording an 8-2 triumph. Sophomore Luke Buchanan (Westerville, Ohio) and freshman Dale Booher (Hartville, Ohio) teamed up at No. 1 for an 8-3 win, while junior Kenny Duncan (Poland, Ohio) and sophomore Spencer Walter (Hilliard, Ohio) combined at the second position for an 8-4 victory.
Walter and sophomore Jesse Faulkner (Columbus, Ohio) surrendered just one game in their respective singles contests. Walter registered a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at the fourth slot, while Faulkner earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6.
Booher tallied a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2, while Duncan turned in an impressive performance at No. 3, leading 6-0, 3-1 before his opponent retired.
Sophomore Gian Carlo DiMichelangelo (Westerville, Ohio) added a 7-5, 6-1 triumph at No. 5. Buchanan edged Zach Schwenning 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8) at the top singles position.
Capital continues league play this Saturday at home against Mount Union. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
