The Capital University men's tennis team picked up a pair of singles wins against a regionally ranked opponent Sunday but was eventually defeated 7-2 by Earlham (Ind.) at the Dayton Center Courts in Dayton, Ohio.
The Crusaders (2-4 overall) were swept in doubles matches by the Quakers (2-2), who are the No. 9 ranked team in the Central Region according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) regional rankings.
Freshman Beau Streety (Tuscon, Ariz.) and sophomore Jared Judson (Dublin, Ohio) each posted singles victories to lead Capital. Streety downed Earlham's Scott Lawrence 6-4, 6-7 (4), 1-0 (10-6) at the fourth position, while Judson thwarted Oliver Smith 6-0, 6-0.
Streety now leads the Crusaders with six singles victories on the season. Judson improved to 5-3 with the win.
Capital returns to play Wednesday, March 19, to face Mount St. Joseph in the team's spring home opener. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the campus tennis courts.
